Tarantulas comprise a group of large and often ″hairy″ spiders of the family Theraphosidae (technically, spiders possess setae, not true hairs). Currently, about 1,000 species have been identified.Some of the more common species have become popular in the exotic pet trade.
Idiothele nigrofulva
Body size of females is 2-4 cm, males – 2-3 cm, leg span is12-14 cm.
The lifespan of females is up to 12, males – up to 3 years.
Harpactira guttata
The body size is up to 6 cm and 14-15 cm in leg span.
Lifespan is about 15 years.
Harpactira marksii
Being well fed it can be the size of up to 7 cm, the span of the legs reaches 12-14 cm.
Lifespan: females – 10 to 12 years, males – 2 to 3 years.
Ceratogyrus brachycephalus
They reach up to 5-6 cm in body and 12-13 cm in leg span.
Lifespan is about 15 years.
Haplocosmia himalayana
The body size is 5.5 cm, up to 15 cm in the span of the legs.
The lifespan of females is about 12 years.
Phormingochilus everetti
A leg span of 20+ cm.
Lifespan is approximately 6-8 years for females.
Haplopelma vonwirthi
The body size of adults is up to 7 cm, and the leg span is up to 15 cm.
Lifespan is about 15 years.
Lampropelma violaceopes
This is a very large spider with a leg span of 25 cm. The females can live up to 14 years while the males live on average of five.
